Meet Dr. Grant Meek
Medical Director and Managing Director
WELL Health Medical & Longevity Centre, Vancouver
You’ll rarely find Dr. Grant Meek sitting idle. Deeply involved in the development of the new longevity programs at WELL Health & Medical Longevity Centre in Vancouver, he divides his time at the clinic working on product development, consulting with clients, and leading the Longevity+ team.
Despite his busy schedule, he finds working on the longevity programming very fulfilling. “It’s encouraging being able to give clients control over their health outcomes with the tools and testing we provide. We help them make informed decisions to ensure their health goals are aligned with their actions,” says Meek.
Born in South Africa, Dr. Grant Meek moved to Canada in 2007 after graduating from University of Pretoria. Studies at Simon Fraser University followed, resulting in MBChB, CFPC, and MBA degrees. Stints at Quesnel in Northern BC, and WorkSafe BC followed, before joining the WELL Health team in Surrey, BC. And patients visiting Surrey Memorial Hospital may find him working there, too!
The WELL Longevity+ programs provide a great fit for Dr. Meek. “Too often healthcare is reactive instead of proactive. Our programs can help people identify their risk factors and provide a roadmap to enact the changes they need to in order to improve their health outcomes. And results are often achieved simply through lifestyle medicine, like exercise and diet. When you have the proper data, you can clearly define what you need to do to optimize your health and overall wellness.”
What sets the WELL Longevity+ programs apart is the strong focus on diagnostics, advanced screening, and technology. “The huge amount of data we collect could be overwhelming, but technology and AI allow for quick results and iteration,” says Dr. Meek. “When I started with WELL Health, the program was new, but with the visionary leadership at WELL and the team, we built out a product and a team to give our clients immediate, actionable solutions to improve their health and wellness, now and into their future.”
“Longevity medicine is different than just straight up preventative healthcare, which is trying to find disease, and the best treatment for that person,” he explains. Longevity medicine is an opportunity for each individual to be tested, and a personalized health optimization plan is created. “We go much deeper than just being satisfied if someone is free of disease. Is your body free of heavy metals? How is your memory? Your brain health? Do you sleep well? How is your emotional and mental wellness?”
“We bring in elements that may normally extend beyond traditional healthcare. We try to position ourselves as a bit of a quarterback for someone who wants to make sure that they’re in the place they want to be now, and in the future,” says Dr. Meek.
While the WELL Longevity+ programs are customized for each individual, Dr. Meek offers four simple recommendations for everyone to do every day to help improve their lifespan and healthspan:
Move your body
Focus on your mental health
Eat a healthy diet
Spend time with friends and family
Dr. Grant Meek is constantly pursuing a healthy lifestyle for himself. He loves to mountain bike, hop on the snowboard, and can often be found walking on the seawall with his partner and dog. Or look for him browsing the shelves of a bookstore. An avid reader, he admits he has a true weakness for bookstores. “I have about 30 books on my nightstand right now that I promised myself I would read before I walk into another bookstore. Yet I plan to go again next month. Unlikely I’ll have finished all of the books sitting on my nightstand, but I can’t help myself! I’ve never gone into a bookstore and left without a book. It just never happens,” he laughs.
