Health Assessment FAQs
What can a comprehensive health assessment reveal about my overall health?
A comprehensive health assessment gives you a much more complete picture of your current health and establishes a baseline you can track over time. Depending on the assessment, we look at areas such as cardiovascular and metabolic health, bloodwork, fitness, body composition and imaging. It can also identify risk factors or findings that may not be causing symptoms yet, giving you and our physician information to make more proactive decisions going forward.
I feel healthy, why should I consider a proactive health assessment?
Many of our clients come to us because they feel healthy and want to stay that way. Some health risks can develop without obvious symptoms. A proactive health assessment gives you a baseline, can identify areas that may need closer attention and helps you make more informed decisions about your health as you age.
What types of testing are included in a full health assessment?
It depends on the assessment and location. All of our assessments include comprehensive bloodwork and physician assessment, with additional testing such as cardiovascular and fitness testing, body composition and diagnostic imaging depending on the level selected. Essentials provides a strong preventive baseline, Clarity adds advanced imaging and early-detection screening, and Advanced adds our most comprehensive testing.
How long does a health assessment take?
This varies by assessment, and can sometimes vary by location too. Most testing is completed in one visit, though more comprehensive assessments may be scheduled across a couple of appointments. Once all results are available, there’s also a physician follow-up to review the findings, report and next steps. Our team will walk you through the exact process and timing when you book.
What happens after my assessment is complete?
Once all of the results are available, you have a physician follow-up to review everything together. You receive a comprehensive personalized report outlining your results, key findings and recommendations, which can be shared with your family physician. Some clients repeat their assessment over time to track changes, while others choose Ongoing Care if they want continued physician support.
How is a longevity-focused assessment different from a standard annual physical?
It goes much deeper than a standard annual physical. A routine physical is generally focused on current concerns and standard screening. Our health assessments and disease screenings combine more extensive testing and physician review, with advanced imaging and diagnostics depending on the assessment selected.
The focus is proactive: understanding where your health is today, identifying potential risks and helping you plan for the future.
Who should consider booking a preventive health assessment?
A preventive health assessment can benefit adults of nearly any age, not just those with existing health concerns or symptoms. Whether you’re looking to establish a baseline, have a family history of certain conditions, or simply want to be more proactive with your health, comprehensive assessments can provide valuable information to help guide future healthcare decisions.
Are health assessments only for people experiencing symptoms?
No. A large part of what we do is proactive health screening, and many clients come to us while feeling well. Their health assessment can establish a baseline, identify certain risks or changes earlier and give you better information to make proactive decisions about your health as you age.
Can a health assessment help identify health risks before symptoms appear?
Yes. That is one of the main goals of proactive screening. Comprehensive diagnostic testing can sometimes identify risk factors or abnormalities before they are causing obvious symptoms. No health assessment can detect or predict everything, but identifying a concern earlier can create an opportunity for further investigation, monitoring or preventive care.
How do personalized health plans support long-term wellness?
Your health assessment or disease screening is a starting point rather than just a set of test results. Our physician reviews your results, medical history, risks and goals together and provides personalized recommendations. Some clients repeat the assessment annually to track changes, while others move into Ongoing Care for more continuous physician support.
Do I need a referral from my family doctor?
No. You do not need a referral from your family doctor to book one of our comprehensive health assessments. Our medical team coordinates the physician review and requisitions required for testing included in the assessment.
Standalone diagnostic imaging in Vancouver is different and requires an appropriate physician requisition.
Are longevity assessments covered by provincial health insurance or private insurance?
Our comprehensive health assessments are private-pay services and are not covered by provincial health insurance.
Some clients are able to use employer health spending accounts or private benefits toward some or all of the cost, but coverage depends on the individual plan. We recommend confirming eligibility directly with your provider.
Do you direct bill to insurance?
No. Clients pay for their health assessment directly. If their private benefits or health spending account provides coverage, they can submit their receipt for reimbursement according to their plan.
What's the difference between a longevity assessment and getting a full-body MRI?
A full-body MRI is one test. A comprehensive longevity assessment looks at your health from multiple angles.
Our Clarity assessment includes a full-body MRI along with bloodwork, physician assessment and other screening and diagnostics. An MRI can provide valuable information, but it cannot tell you things like blood sugar, cholesterol, cardiovascular fitness and many other important health markers. The value is in looking at all of that information together, with guidance and recommendations from our physician.
Can I tailor my assessment by picking a few services out of each assessment to do?
Generally, no. Our health assessments are designed as comprehensive packages rather than a menu of individual tests that can be mixed and matched. If there is a specific concern or test someone is interested in, we can help determine which assessment is the best fit. Our physician can also make changes where medically appropriate.
Which health assessment is right for me?
The right assessment depends on your health goals, concerns and how comprehensive you want the evaluation to be. Essentials provide a strong overall health baseline, Clarity adds advanced imaging and a greater focus on early detection, and Advanced offers our most comprehensive level of testing. Our team will take the time to understand what prompted you to reach out, your personal and family health history, any specific areas of concern and what testing you may have already completed. From there, we can help guide you toward the health assessment or disease screening that best aligns with what you are looking for.
Will a health assessment replace my family doctor?
No. A health assessment is a comprehensive evaluation at a point in time and is designed to complement your existing medical care, not replace your family physician. If you are looking for a family physician and proactive primary care, we can also discuss our Ongoing Care options.
Can I complete an assessment if I don't have a family doctor?
Yes. Having a family physician is not required to complete a health assessment. Our physician will review your results and findings with you and provide recommendations at your assessment follow-up.
However, unless you are enrolled in our Ongoing Care program, our assessment physicians do not provide ongoing medical advice and management after the assessment is complete. We recommend having a family physician or primary care provider in place to support any necessary follow-up and continuity of care.
Can a health assessment tell me if I have cancer, heart disease or another specific condition?
A health assessment can include screening that may identify abnormalities or areas that need further investigation, but no assessment can rule out every type of cancer, heart condition or other disease. If you have a specific symptom, strong family history or particular concern, it is important to let us know so we can help determine the most appropriate assessment or next step.
Can I complete an assessment if I live outside of the province?
Yes. Clients from other provinces are able to complete an assessment.
I'm travelling for my assessment. How much time should I plan to be in the city?
This depends on the specific health assessment and location. Let us know you’re travelling and our team can walk you through the expected schedule before you make travel arrangements, so you can plan your trip with confidence.
